At Sound-Awakening, my mission is to provide transformative sound bath experiences that promote relaxation, mindfulness, and holistic healing. I believe in the power of sound to awaken the senses, reduce stress, and connect individuals with their inner peace.
To Bring Healing Through Sound
At the centre of my sound bath sessions are the gongs, an ancient instrument that has been used as a form of sound healing since around 4,000 B.C. The gongs create waves of sound that are deeply relaxing and allow the brain to move into different brain wave states. It lowers the frequency of the brainwaves from alpha, then theta and sometimes to delta (sleep). I like to start each session with a yoga nidra (yogic sleep meditation) and this helps the person to settle into deep rest allowing them to receive the benefits of the sound bath instruments. Singing bowls are woven into the journey, enhancing the sounds of the gong and the final section of the sound journey finishes with chimes and other grounding instruments such as drums and rattles. The vibration of the sound stimulates the vagus nerve, part of our parasympathetic nervous system which helps reduce stress hormones.
People settle in a comfy position with mats, blankets and anything else needed to stay warm and comfortable. I normally begin with a meditation to quieten the mind before introducing any instruments. The Sound Bath begins with singing bowls before moving into the sounds of the gong. During the session, experiences are very individual, some participants become so relaxed that they fall asleep, and the body uses this time to re-balance, restore and nurture itself. Most people however, flit in and out of consciousness and notice their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual responses. The sounds may release different feelings and emotions, others have experienced imagery and some have felt physical sensations. As the Sound Bath progresses the deeper sounds of the gongs begin to stimulate the right hemisphere of the brain. When the right hemisphere becomes more activated intuition, imagination and creativity may be awakened.
